Clark County, Nevada

With over 2.7 million residents, Clark County accounts for up to 70% of Nevada's population and covers 7% of the land area of the entire state. As the most populous county in the Commonwealth, it is a major hub for commerce, industry, and judicial affairs. Las Vegas by far is the most populous city within Clark County and has been its county seat since it was established. Regarding judicial affairs, the Clark County court system is well structured to manage a wide variety of legal matters, from civil cases to juvenile cases. It collaborates with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that law and order is maintained in the county. The county court system administers justice through these key courts: the District Court, the Justice Courts, and the Municipal Courts. Each of these courts plays a significant role in managing the diverse legal issues that arise in the county.

The Clark County District Court has jurisdiction over all civil and criminal cases in the county. Nonetheless, it only handles cases that are beyond the jurisdiction of other courts. It is divided into Divisions, those being the Civil and Criminal Division and the Family and Juvenile Division. The Civil and Criminal Division handles felonies, misdemeanors, and other offenses. The Family and Juvenile Division ensures that family law and juvenile cases are handled efficiently. Both Divisions are located in different locations in Las Vegas. Clark County has up to eleven Justice Courts, located in different areas of the county. These Justice Courts have limited jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases like misdemeanors, small claims of less than $10,000, real property cases, and orders of protection. Clark Municipal Courts, located in five municipalities, handle violations of city and municipal ordinances.

Clark court records are maintained by the County Clerk. They are public records, therefore, they can be disclosed to members of the public upon request. To request Clark court records, you can approach the County Clerk in person. Alternatively, you can obtain District Court records through the Records Inquiry portal. For Justice Courts records, you can conduct a search on the Case Search webpage. Notably, juvenile records, adoption records, and proceedings of mental health cases are exempt from public disclosure and do require special permission or court orders to obtain access.

The Clark County court system is a cornerstone of its governance. It is well-equipped and dedicated to handling the diverse judicial affairs that arise in the county.
