Parking: There is convenient parking in the adjoining parking structure or nearby county-owned parking areas. Parking spaces can become scarce, and early arrival is recommended. The County is unable to pay for city overtime parking tickets issued at metered spaces and two-hour limited spaces around the courthouse. Those spaces should be avoided by jurors. See the parking map on the bar code slip sent with your summons.

About / Additional Info: The Constitution of Pennsylvania establishes the Common Pleas Court as the trial court of general jurisdiction in the Commonwealth. It is here that criminal prosecutions are brought ranging from homicides to misdemeanors. Claims for money damages in complex civil cases are tried here.All matters relating to the family - divorce, custody and support - are presented here. Juvenile court cases, estate matters, adoptions, property disputes and equity issues are all heard at this level. The Third Judicial District of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania includes the Court of Common Pleas of Northampton County and fifteen Magisterial District Courts located in Northampton County. These courts are part of the judicial branch of government of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.The Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of Northampton County are proud of the quantity and quality of work accomplished by the judicial branch.

About / Additional Info: The Magisterial District Judges are part of a unified judicial system governed by the rules and regulations promulgated by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. President Judge Michael J. Koury, Jr. exercises general supervision and administrative control over the Magisterial District Judges. Jenelle Crisafulli, Deputy Court Administrator, oversees the operations of the District Courts. Magisterial District Judges have jurisdiction over minor criminal offenses, traffic offenses, landlord/tenant matters and other civil actions where the amount claimed does not exceed $12,000.00. In misdemeanor and felony cases, Magisterial District Judges have jurisdiction to issue arrest and search warrants, hold preliminary arraignments and preliminary hearings and set bail. They also have authority to perform marriages, handle protection from abuse matters and issue subpoenas. They also may impose summary punishments for criminal contempt. A Magisterial District Judge is available 24 hours a day to serve the public with all Magisterial District Judges serving night and weekend duty on a rotating basis.
