About/Additional Info: | Colorado Territorial Correctional facility opened in 1871 as a territorial prison and became a state prison in 1876. It was previously known as Colorado State Prison (CSP). CTCF is located within the city limits of Cañon City and encompasses 150 acres (20 acres are within the secure perimeter and are staffed with up to six towers). Due to the Ramos vs. Lamm lawsuit in the 1970's and 1980’s, CSP was renamed Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility (CTCF) and remodeling began. After several years of renovations, CTCF currently has the capacity to house 985 medium custody male inmates. CTCF serves as an ADA designated facility; the oldest physical plant in the state. Units 1, 3, and 7 hold General Population inmates. Unit 5 is currently being renovated from a 140-bed transitional unit to a more traditional cell house with a targeted population to be determined after renovations are completed. The infirmary is a 32-bed unit which houses inmates from all other facilities with acute medical and mental health needs. | |
