Larimer County, Colorado

Located in the north-central portion of the state of Colorado, Larimer County is home to over 359,300 residents. Its seat of government and most populous municipality is Fort Collins. Courts operating in Larimer County include the District Court, County Courts, and Municipal Courts.

Larimer County District Court is part of the Eighth Judicial District of Colorado. The court hears several types of civil cases, including monetary claims, contract disputes, personal injury cases, and negligence. It also handles cases of felonies and lesser-included offenses. Juvenile, probate, and domestic relations matters are also within the authority of the District Court. Located in Fort Collins and Loveland, the Larimer County Courts have jurisdiction over civil cases where the plaintiff's claim does not exceed $25,000. Other cases within the authority of the County Courts include traffic cases, misdemeanor and felony offenses, requests for protection orders, and small claims of not more than $7,500. Parties can appeal the decisions of the County Courts at the District Court. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office received 238 reports of violent crimes in the county in 2023. Likewise, according to the Colorado Courts Annual Statistical Report, the District Court recorded 8,295 case dispositions, while both County Courts resolved 18,109 cases. The District Court's records department maintains most case records in the county. Anyone can obtain case records by visiting the department or completing the online Record Request Form. Other options to access court records in the county include filling out the Criminal Justice Records Request Form and using the online Docket Search Portal. Records of a Municipal Court are available at the court's location. Note that requesters are to pay the relevant fees to obtain copies of court records. Also, sealed records and other records declared confidential by state or federal laws are not accessible to the public.

Parking: All day parking is available on the city streets west of the Justice Center on Laporte Ave., Meldrum and Maple. Do not park in a 2 hour parking zone. You will be here longer than 2 hours without a chance to move your car. Parking longer than 2 hours in a 2 hour zone can result in a parking ticket. The lot in front of the Justice Center off of Howes Street is 2 hour parking, Do not park in that lot unless you have a handicap plate or hang tag.
