Suwannee County, Florida
Situated in the north-central part of Florida, Suwannee County was named after the Suwannee River. Its county seat and largest city is Live Oak. Suwannee County has a population of about 43,881 residents and a land area of 688.6 square miles. The cities of Live Oak, Wellborn and Branford make up Suwannee and it was founded in the year of 1858. Part of the 3rd Congressional District the county court system consists of the Circuit Court and the County Court.
Suwannee County is served by the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, the highest trial court in the county. The court has jurisdiction over felonies, juvenile cases, family matters, and probate cases. It also hears civil claims involving more than $50,000 and applications for prerogative reliefs. Just below the Circuit Court in the Suwannee court system is the County Court. The jurisdiction of the County Court of Suwannee County is limited to misdemeanors, traffic cases, small claims involving $8,000, and general civil claims not exceeding $50,000 in value. Both the Circuit and County Court conduct their proceedings in Live Oak.
