Organized in December 1891 and named for the European settler Erastus Appleman Williams, Williams County is located at the western border of North Dakota, with an estimated population of over 39,000. This makes it the fifth most populous county within the state of North Dakota and its county seat is Williston. Considered to be part of the Williston Micropolitan Statistical Area, it encompasses the cities of Williston, Tioga, McGregor, Alamo, Wildrose, Epping, Grenora, Ray, and Springbrook. About / Additional Info: Northwest Judicial District was created in 1979 to include Burke, Divide, McKenzie, Mountrail, Ward and Williams counties. In 2014, Burke, Mountrail and Ward counties were transferred to the new North Central Judicial District. Now there are 3 counties included: Divide, McKenzie and Williams.
