Named after the Licking River, Licking County covers about 682 square miles of land area in Ohio. The county is the third largest located within the state, with a population of 178,800 people. The government seat is Newark. The Courts of Common Pleas, Municipal Court, and Mayor's Court comprise the Licking County court system.

Licking's Court of Common Pleas is a general jurisdiction court. The apex court has three Divisions: General, Domestic Relation, and Juvenile-probate Divisions. Parking: If you are required to report for jury duty, free parking is provided in the County Parking Garage located at 53 S. Second Street, Newark, OH 43055. There is also free parking on the streets surrounding the courthouse. If you choose to park on the street, please make sure that you display your juror parking pass (included in your jury packet) and that you are not in a private parking lot, (behind a business or office building)
Public transportation: The Licking County Transit Services (LCT) is the demand responsive public transportation system for Licking County residents. We provide origin to destination services. The LCT is owned, operated and governed by the citizens of Licking County through the Licking County Transit Board

The General Division of the Licking County Common Pleas Court has jurisdiction over all felony criminal cases and a wide variety of civil cases, including but not limited to actions for negligence, professional malpractice, appeals from administrative agencies, breach of contract, foreclosures, and actions for declaratory judgment and injunctive relief.
