Clarksville houses the County's Circuit, General Sessions, Chancery, Juvenile, and Municipal Courts. These courts belong to the 19th Judicial District of Tennessee.

Statutorily, the Montgomery Circuit Court has general jurisdiction in both criminal and civil cases. It shares jurisdiction and hears appeals from the county's other courts. The Chancery Court specializes in equity cases that involve non-monetary resolutions, such as disputes over property, estates, or trusts. Additionally, it handles divorce, paternity, adoption, and guardianship cases. The General Sessions Court has limited jurisdiction over criminal and civil matters. It conducts misdemeanor trials, preliminary hearings in felony matters, and small claims proceedings. Civil Jurisdiction is held to specific monetary restrictions accompanied by the types of actions that are allowed. Also known as a City Court, the Clarksville Municipal Court is located in the only incorporated city in the county. This court holds hearings for city status offenses, code violations, and traffic violations. Lastly, the Juvenile Court is responsible for hearing issues relating to juvenile dependency, juvenile delinquency, violation of parental responsibilities, juvenile traffic offenses, and child abuse.

The Montgomery Circuit Court resolves approximately 8,000 cases annually. Each court year, the circuit court handles around 5,000 criminal cases and 2,000 civil cases. Moreover, the Chancery Court handles roughly 1,800 cases in a year. The Circuit Court Clerk plays a crucial role in maintaining all case filings and court records within the county. Additionally, they oversee administrative and some juvenile matters. While Juvenile Court records are deemed confidential by state law, Montgomery County residents can freely access other court records on the Online Court Records System. All court records are well maintained and updated frequently to ensure the proper information. Confidential and sealed records can be accessible with special permission or court order.

The Montgomery County court system ensures justice for court users by handling various legal issues through its Municipal, Circuit, General Sessions, Juvenile, and Chancery Courts.
