Mobile County, Alabama

Mobile County is located in the southwestern region of Alabama. It was named in honor of Maubila, the village of the paramount chief Tuskaloosa. It has a population of 413,878 and in the early 16th century, it was part of the Mississippian culture territory. Mobile County was formed on December 18, 1812, and has its county seat in the city of Mobile. The 13th Judicial Circuit Court located in Mobile has general jurisdiction over all case types. The District Court's address is in Mobile, it has jurisdiction over criminal misdemeanor cases, and holds preliminary hearings for felony prosecutions, traffic cases, and civil claims in which the amount of money involved in dispute is more than $3,000 but less than $10,000. It hears cases on unlawful detainer actions and has a small claims division. The 11 municipal courts in Mobile County have exclusive jurisdiction over municipal ordinance violation cases and handle misdemeanor cases that occur within their boundaries. They are located in places like Citronelle, Bayou La Batre, Creola, Chickasaw, and Dauphin Island.

About / Additional Info: Municipal Court is held three times a week. Unless otherwise notified, Traffic Court is held each Monday at 9:00a.m.; Environmental Court is scheduled each Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.; and Criminal Court is held each Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. The Prichard Municipal Court does not handle felony cases. All felony cases that occur in Prichard are adjudicated in Mobile County and heard at Government Plaza. In most cases, Bond Hearings are held each Friday at 9:00 a.m.
