Hartford County, Connecticut

Established in 1666, Hartford County was one of the founding counties of Connecticut and covers 751 square miles of the state's north-central region. The county is also Connecticut's second-most populous county, with over 898,600 residents. Connecticut's capital city, Hartford, is the county seat. The Superior Court is the highest court responsible for handling civil and criminal cases within Hartford County's court system. Additionally, the county has a Probate Court that serves as the lower court.

The Superior Court operates at the Hartford Judicial District courthouse in Hartford City. This court has general jurisdiction over several cases and is divided into the Criminal, Civil, Family, and Juvenile Matters Divisions. The court also resolved 9,077 civil cases during the year. Likewise, the Criminal Division of the Hartford Judicial District Superior Court concluded 290 of the 817 total criminal cases it handled. Furthermore, the Court finalized 4,448 family law cases out of the 5,262 family cases it processed. During this period, the Court processed 1,364 juvenile cases, resulting in 1,135 case dispositions. However, only eligible individuals or those with valid court orders can access confidential court records.

Parking: Metered Parking is available on both sides of Lafayette and Washington Streets. The meters take only coins or credit cards. Public Courthouse Parking is also available on Grand Street for $8.00 per day. To get to Grand Street go down Lafayette Street past the Courthouse and juror parking lot and take your first right onto Grand Street, which is a one-way street.
