Orange County, Florida

Orange County is centrally located in Florida, formed on December 29, 1824. It was renamed on the 29th of December, 1845, and has over 1.43 million people inhabiting it. Orange County is the fifth most populous county in the state and the 28th most populous county in the United States. The county was named after the orange groves that thrived in the area and its county seat is Orlando. Both Circuit Courts and County Courts work harmoniously to foster the progress of justice and devise strategic approaches toward solving various lawsuits.

The County Courts in Orange County have similar functions to Municipal Courts. They hear ordinance violations and misdemeanor cases. They also have limited presidence over certain types of civil (the amount of money involved in dispute is $15,000 or less) and criminal cases. County courts hear uncontested divorce, juvenile traffic, and civil dissolution cases. The Ninth Judicial Circuit courts are the major trial courts of general jurisdiction. They function within the sphere of Family Law, Criminal, Probate, Civil, Mental Health, and Juvenile cases. For each Circuit Court, there is one County Court at the same location. Circuit and County Courts can be found in Orlando (Apopka, Ocoee, and Winter Park). The Circuit Courts in Orange County are Orange County Circuit Court - Winter Park, Orange County Circuit Court - Ocoee, Orange County Circuit Court - Apopka Branch, and Orange County Circuit Court - Orlando.

The Circuit Civil Division from January to December 2022, filed 11,289 cases, and 12,228 cases were disposed. In 2021, 11,632 were filed and a total of 11,552 cases were disposed. On average, in a year Orange County files 11,000 cases and terminates a similar amount. This figure is derived from the caseload trend in the Circuit Civil Division from 2018 to 2023. The Orange County Clerk of Courts is the authority whose function is to keep court records. Court records are stored electronically and can be assessed by the same means at the office of the Clerk of Courts. Juvenile (delinquency and dependency) records and mental health records except for Risk Protection Orders (RPO) are not accessible to the general public.

Orange County is a county with a vast number of people and provides the technical know-how to solve a variety of legal issues. From small claims, landlord-tenant, misdemeanors, juvenile traffic, county ordinance violation, and juvenile dependency cases, the judiciary in Orange County is legally equipped. Several court cases, dockets, trials, and hearings are made accessible which is an indication that the legal processes are checked for accuracy and truthfulness.
