Named after the community of Volusia and created from parts of Orange County, Volusia County covers an area of 1,432 square miles. The county has a population of over 558,500 residents. Established in 1854, Volusia County has its county seat in DeLand. Volusia County court system is designed to address a wide range of legal matters through its Circuit and County Courts.

The Volusia County Circuit Court is located in DeLand. It has two additional locations in Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over felony criminal cases and civil disputes above $30,000. The court also presides over juvenile cases, such as child abuse, child neglect, and divorce cases. Probate cases involving wills, estates and trusts, and family law matters such as divorce and child support.
