Peoria County is located right in the heart of Illinois, encompassing 629 square miles, running 28 miles east to west and 32 miles north to south. Its economy is driven by strong sectors such as craft distilling, agriculture, banking, and medicine. Peoria County falls within the jurisdiction of the 10th Judicial Circuit of Illinois, which handles all legal issues within the county.
The Peoria County Circuit Court, located in the city of Peoria, has three major divisions: Civil, Traffic, and Criminal. The Civil Division handles divorce, eminent domain, probate, juvenile, law, small claims, mental health, family, adoption, chancery, remedy, order of protection, law magistrate, wills, and eviction cases, presiding over 7,000 case dispositions each year. Furthermore, the Traffic Division prosecutes violations of vehicle, fish, and wildlife codes. It also manages traffic ticket hearings and payments.
