Macomb County, Michigan

Macomb County is located in the Eastern region of Michigan. It was organized on January 15, 1818 and named after Alexander Macomb, a war veteran. The County government seat is in Mount Clemens and Macomb County has a population of over 878,400. The court system in Macomb County plays a vital role in upholding peace and order. The Circuit Court, District Courts, and Probate Courts are committed to providing timely and unbiased justice to Macomb County residents.

The 16th Circuit Court located in Mount Clemens handles criminal felony matters, protective orders, family matters, equitable relief, and civil cases in which the amount of money in dispute is $25,000 or more, and generally hears appeals from the District Courts. The Macomb District Courts cover several locations in cities such as Fraser, Roseville, Shelby Township, East Pointe, and Warren. They have exclusive jurisdiction over traffic and parking violations, and misdemeanor cases which attract a penalty of one year. They hold preliminary hearings on criminal felony cases, set bails, handle landlord-tenant cases, as well as, city ordinance violations. Both the Mental Division and Wills and Probate Division of the Probate Court are located in Mount Clemens. The Probate Courts are statutory courts with control over guardianship, conservatorship, administration of estates, personal properties left by the deceased, and order the treatment of mentally ill and developmentally disabled persons.

Clemens, MI 48043The Macomb County Courthouse and Old County Building is conveniently located near the I-94 Freeway. If northbound on I-94, exit onto Metropolitan Parkway eastbound, turn left at Crocker Blvd and proceed northwest into downtown Mount Clemens. Turn right onto Main Street. The Old County Building is on the north-east corner of the Main Street intersection. The Court Building is just to the north of the Old County Building.If southbound on I-94, take the North River Road exit. Turn right onto North River Road and proceed to Gratiot Avenue. After merging onto Gratiot Avenue proceed immediately to the left-hand lane and turn left onto Main Street. Once on Main Street, the Court building will be on the left after the Main Street/Market Street intersection. The Old County Building is just to the south of the Court Building.
