Randolph County was named for Payton Randolph and was formerly inhabited by the Saponi and Keyauwee (Siouan Native Americans). It was formed in 1779 and its county seat is stationed in Asheboro. It has an population estimated at 144,403. Randolph County is located in the center of North Carolina and borders Guilford County, Montgomery County, and Chatham County.
