About/Additional Info: Stone County was created April 21, 1873 to become the 74th county in Arkansas. It was formed from parts of Izard, Independence, Searcy and Van Buren and was named for the rugged rock formations in the area. The county seat, Mountain View, was incorporated in 1890 and we have a population of approximately 12,000 residents. Stone County's landscape is the rugged Ozark Mountains, which includes the Ozark National Forest and the Blanchard Springs Caverns.
