Parker County, Texas

Parker County was named for Isaac Parker, who introduced the bill that created the county in 1855. The county spans a total area of 910 square miles, and the county seat is Weatherford. In 2022, over 151,100 people resided in the county. The Parker County court system consists of local-level courts (Municipal and Justice Courts), county-level courts (County Courts-at-Law and Probate Court), and state-level courts (District Courts).

The 43rd and 415th District Courts are housed in the District Courts Building in Weatherford. These courts preside over matters beyond the jurisdiction of other courts, such as felonies, juvenile matters, civil actions involving an amount above $200, and election contests. Both located in Weatherford, the County Courts-at-Law in Parker County focus on class A and B misdemeanors and all contested probate matters. Municipal Courts, such as those in Aledo, Azle, Willow Park, Weatherford, and Hudson Oaks, handle class C misdemeanors, small claims, evictions, and municipal ordinance violation cases. Also known as Justice Courts, the Justice of the Peace Courts handle matters similar to those handled by the Municipal Courts but at the county level. They also issue arrest or search warrants, conduct inquests, and adjudicate traffic-related offenses. In conclusion, the County Probate Court is also located in Weatherford. This court handles uncontested probate matters, guardianships for incapacitated persons, mental health commitments, intestacy proceedings, and conservatorships.

Annually, the Parker County Justice Courts handle the largest number of case dispositions. They finalize up to 20,000 cases, with criminal cases making up the majority. While the District Courts resolve approximately 4,000 cases, the County Courts-at-Law handle around 3,000 case dispositions each year. In addition to annual court statistics reports, Parker County residents also have access to the court records of cases filed in the county. The County Clerk maintains county courts-at-law, probate, and mental health court records, while the District Clerk holds custody of district civil, felony, juvenile, and family court records. To view court records, interested individuals can use the Parker County Public Portal. However, the following cases are exempt from public viewing:

  • Juvenile records (excluding felony-related records)
  • Sealed records

Access can be granted through a court order or per special request/permission.

The Municipal, District, County, Justice, and Probate Courts make up the court system in Parker County. These courts aim to administer timely and impartial justice at different levels within the county. The court system also seeks to maintain transparency for the public by providing electronic access to court records.
