McClain County is part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and covers only 580 square miles. It was created in 1907 and has a population of approximately 42,400 residents. Purcell is home to the county's highest trial court and also serves as the county seat. The McClain County District Court and municipal courts operate within the same court system but handle separate legal matters. Notably, only eight of the ten incorporated cities and towns in McClain County have a municipal court.

Furthermore, McClain County Municipal Courts handle the violations of city ordinances that occur within the city limits. These courts handle cases related to public intoxication, disorderly conduct, parking, and noise violations. Excluding Rosedale, Cole, and Maysville, Municipal Courts are located in Blanchard, Dibble, Goldsby, Purcell, Newcastle, Washington, and Wayne.

The number of crimes reported against persons, property, or society emphasizes the importance of the judicial system. McClain County has an overall crime rate of 37.83 incidents per 1,000 people, with crimes committed against property being the most commonly reported. To maintain trust in the court system, court records are in the safekeeping of the county court clerk and can be obtained upon request by an interested party. Moreover, the McClain District Court records are remotely available on the On Demand Court Records (ODCR) website. However, the public cannot access juvenile, domestic violence, mental health commitment, and other sealed records due to the confidential information they contain. In order to obtain these records, a court order or special permission is required.
